Even though we conducted the beginning of our research in a different fashion than we had previously anticipated, we are on track with our original Project Timeline. By the end of the month of December, we had two creative and stimulating educational games, each of them implemented using different hardware. One game was designed to be used on a Touch Table, and the other was implemented using a projector and a camera with motion detection and recognition.
We conducted several meetings during the month of January, focusing on the following:
- Assessing the situation and determining the total amount of work that remained, so that we could finish with two successful prototypes to test
- Partitioning the workload into three sections and assigning a task coordinator
- Analyzing the possibility of introducing more sophisticated graphics
- Evaluating our options for experimentation and testing, and the permissions involved
The evaluation method that we've considered for the projector game requires the installation of the actual game in a high-traffic area on campus. Since the hardware involved should be monitored closely, it's only considered location is in the Engineering and Computer Science Building (ECS). We have arranged a meeting with the Technical staff of the building to determine the possibility of such a set-up, the security issues involved, and placement.
If we are successful in installing the display, the projection screen will need to be monitored in such a way that we are able to examine each individual's reaction to the game.
